Meet Jim French. Jim established his own consultancy, Fargo Creek Consulting, LLC in early 2024. He is currently working as an Independent Consulting Resource providing business assessment, performance improvement, management coaching, mentoring, and broad based HSE support services.

Jim first entered the mining industry at Kennecott’s Bingham Canyon Mine in 1992. He retired from Lundin Mining in 2023, most recently having served as Vice President of Health, Safety, and Risk. Prior to joining Lundin Mining in mid-2013, Jim spent nearly two decades with Rio Tinto in a variety of operational, business, and corporate HSE roles. With his 30+ years of cross-global management and technical expertise in the mining industry, and his diverse background which includes HSE, business risk, crisis management, auditing, advisory, consulting, and directorial roles, Jim is well-equipped to drive and support organizational success. His management style is strategic, people focused, results driven, and is based on the application of simple and pragmatic solutions and processes.

Jim holds a Master of Science in Education (MS Ed.), specializing in health education occupational health and safety, and a Bachelor of Science in Administration of Justice (BS), specializing in industrial security and safety, both from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.

Meet Melanie McCarthy, a seasoned professional dedicated to mentoring engineers towards exceptional leadership. With over twenty years of operational and executive-level mining experience, Melanie has honed her expertise in safe underground mining and processing, stakeholder relationships, leadership, and community development. Her skills also extend to relationship building and contract negotiations, particularly with Chinese customers.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Melanie is an accomplished individual with diverse talents. She has served as a board director and chairman for over a decade, specializing in risk and audit committee leadership. Additionally, Melanie manages a mixed farm in Victoria, overseeing the production of fat lambs, wool, stud Merinos, and lucerne hay through irrigation and dryland methods. She also excels in viticulture, managing a biodynamic vineyard, overseeing wine production, and spearheading marketing and sales efforts.

Melanie’s academic background includes bachelor’s qualifications in Arts and Chemical Engineering from the University of Melbourne, complemented by a Master’s degree in Engineering Science from UNSW. She is recognized as a Fellow of Engineers Australia and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD). With her wealth of experience and diverse skill set, Melanie is committed to guiding the next generation of engineering leaders towards success.

Carnedd brings a wealth of experience from diverse roles within large, complex and global organisations. His background spans various disciplines, including strategy and transformation, program management, business analyst, and health, safety and wellbeing.

With over fifteen years of experience, Carnedd specialises in strategic enterprise-wide occupational health, safety & wellbeing program development and implementation. His expertise extends across high-risk sectors such as emergency services, mining, metals, and the resources sector to private professional services and public sector.

Notably, Carnedd has held Executive and Senior positions, including Director Health, Safety & Wellbeing at Fire Rescue Victoria and Group Principal Health for ASX Top 20 listed company South32, a globally diversified mining & metals company.

Carnedd’s academic qualifications include a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Exercise Science, a Masters in Business Administration, and a postgraduate Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety. Additionally, he is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD).

Having worked extensively in education and well-being across Europe, Asia, and Australia, Peter leveraged his strong leadership and communication skills to drive primary prevention efforts, inspiring teams to overcome challenges and achieve their goals.

Previously, as the Partnerships Manager & Facilitator at The Resilience Project, he designed and delivered impactful workshops for corporate and educational clients, offering evidence-based strategies to enhance resilience. Skilled in building rapport and trust with diverse individuals, he excel in cultivating relationships with stakeholders across different industries.
